After getting back into the win column by backing Seattle on Monday, MLB handicapper Dalton Brown is hoping to make it four winners in his last five bets with Tuesday's play.
9:40 p.m. ET: Miami Marlins at San Diego Padres: Padres F5 -0.5 (-120) at PointsBet
As the Marlins and Padres continue their series from Petco Park on Tuesday, I'm getting behind San Diego to jump out to a lead.
If you've been following along on my best bets lately, you've probably noticed that this bet is borderline automatic with Blake Snell on the mound. Snell has vaulted himself into the Cy Young race in the National League over the last several months, and I'm not seeing a reason to jump off of this bandwagon quite yet. It has now been three months since the lefty allowed more than three runs in a start, and he's allowed two or fewer in 15 of 16 starts during that span. Included within that was an outing that saw Snell toss six scoreless innings in Miami, and the Marlins have struggled to a wRC+ of 85 vs. southpaws since the All-Star Break.
Jesus Luzardo will pitch for the Marlins, and I would be surprised if he matched Snell blow-for-blow here. Luzardo has been a mess, allowing four or more runs in four straight starts and holding a 11.68 ERA in August. When Luzardo faced San Diego on June 1, he surrendered five runs and picked up a loss - and unlike Miami, the Padres have crushed lefties at a 141-wRC+ clip since mid-July.
Don't overthink this. San Diego F5 is the clear play.
